There's growing controversy over reality TV star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's speaking gig at Rutgers University.

"The Jersey Shore" star was paid $32,000 last week to dish about her lifestyle. Money for her appearance came from students' mandatory activity fee.

New Jersey state Sen. Joe Kyrillos says students at public colleges shouldn't be required to fund entertainment they find objectionable. The Republican lawmaker said he's certain there were many students who were not only uninterested but also outraged by Snooki's appearance.

He said he plans to sponsor legislation allowing students to opt into campus events requiring a fee.

Snooki was paid $2,000 more than Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison will get for delivering the commencement address.
