Hulk Hogan appears to have found his "American Idol" - James Durbin, the contestant and wrestling fan he surprised in person weeks ago on the FOX singing contest series.
"Damn my man James Durbin kills it Again," Hogan said on his Twitter page recently. "The brother has a monster of life experiences in his heart, simply has it all,the best,KING JAMES. HH"
Durbin, a 22-year-old singer from Santa Cruz, California who has become known for his rocker wail, appeared ecstatic when the wrestling star made a surprise appearance on the "American Idol" stage on a March 24 episode. A segment showing Durbin play-wrestling with other contestants and talking about his love for the sport aired before Hogan's cameo.
Durbin, who lives with his family and has a son, has talked about how he was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome and Asperger's syndrome and exhibits facial tics, which are sometimes seen during his appearances on "American Idol." Before he was cast in the current 10th season, he starred in local productions of musicals such as "West Side Story" and "Beauty and the Beast."
The singer sang the song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles and appeared weepy-eyed himself during Wednesday's episode of "American Idol."
The following day, Thursday, April 7, "American Idol" former frontrunner Pia Toscano was eliminated, marking the season's biggest shocker. According to online polls, including those on OnTheRedCarpet.com, she was voted most likely to win the FOX singing contest series. As of Friday, April 8, OnTheRedCarpet.com readers have picked Durbin as the frontrunner (have your say and vote below).
Aside from Durbin, the remaining finalists are Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Lauren Alaina, Casey Abrams, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald and Haley Reinhart.
