2 arrested outside WeHo club after deputy-involved shooting

WEST HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives said a man was beaten outside the Whisky a Go Go and a pedestrian was run over, leaving both in critical condition.

The two men hit pedestrians as they fled the scene.

"I saw a kid lying on the ground covered in blood," said witness Melissa Dean. "Then the car tried to get away and hit another guy in the process."

As the suspect's red Saturn sped out of the parking lot, witnesses said a pedestrian was struck so hard that the pedestrian hit into a telephone pole. The suspect's vehicle continued into the sidewalk, hitting the building that houses the club and then headed onto Sunset Boulevard.

"One of the back wheels was flat," said witness Andy Cockrum. "There was a lot of smoke coming out of it and several people were chasing it up Sunset."

A sheriff's deputy stopped the red Saturn near Doheny Drive. The sheriff's department said the deputy fired a shot at the vehicle when the driver displayed a dark object.

No one was hit, but the 20-year-old driver, Eduardo Gomez, and 18-year-old passenger, Jesus Gomez, were both arrested. Deputies said the driver was drunk.

The man beaten up and the pedestrian hit were taken to the hospital.

"The history of the Whisky, we don't have a lot of problems," said Manager Tisa Mylar.

Both men arrested have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Eduardo Gomez will also be charged with driving under the influence and causing injury.
