Chip tracks stolen hotel linens

LOS ANGELES

Some hotels are tracking their linens with a new, washable chip.

According to Miami-based Linen Technology Tracking, three hotels are using the chip so far. The chip tracks linens through radio frequencies.

The New York Times is reporting that one hotel in Honolulu has reduced thefts of its pool towels from 4,000 per month to just 750.

The decrease in theft saves the hotel $16,000 a month
