Researchers found that nearly half of the samples of meat and poultry used in the study were tainted with bacteria.
One out of four samples was resistant to various antibiotics.
Experts say the bacteria can be killed by thoroughly cooking the meat and poultry.
The study was published in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal.
