Paul McDonald, who was eliminated from "American Idol" on Thursday says that actress Nikki Reed of "The Twilight Saga," who he is "officially dating," is happy that he's no longer on the show, reports People magazine.
"She is actually pumped," McDonald told People. "She said, 'Dude, you finally get to do your thing and be yourself and be the artist you are.' She is happy about the whole situation. She has been nothing but cool to me."
McDonald is apparently not upset over the elimination either because he now has a chance to work on his own music and the songs he has been writing and sending back to his band, Grand Magnolias.
"I have this other side that I didn't even start to show," he says. "I play keys. It's hard to do in a minute and a half of a cover song so I'm looking forward to doing my own thing and getting creative again."
The aspiring singer admit to the magazine that he probably should have focused on his "Idol" songs rather than writing his own songs about "stuff going on in this whole L.A. scene, but he has apparently been inspired to work on a solo album.
Reed and McDonald first crossed paths when the "Idol" gang went to the Hollywood premiere of "Red Riding Hood" in early March. Their meeting was caught on camera as Reed said, "You're amazing. I'm blushing, I should go" before hugging McDonald awkwardly.
When she was out of earshot, McDonald said to the camera, "Was she a famous actress or something? I'd hang out with her!"
Reed is currently filming "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" in British Columbia and will be shooting the Bret Easton Ellis-penned flick, "Downers Grove" in the spring. Reed got her break starring and writing the controversial movie "Thirteen," which was co-written and directed by "Twilight"'s first director, Catherine Hardwicke.
The couple is reportedly communicating via Skype while they're apart. Watch the video of Reed and McDonald's first meeting below.
