Volunteers hit OC beach in cleanup effort

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.

The campaign aims to raise more than $750,000 to go toward keeping state parks and beaches clean and well maintained.

Event officials expected more than 1,000 volunteers to join the cleanup at Huntington Beach.

In addition to picking up trash, volunteers planned to remove non-native plants from around the beach - an area spanning about 2.5 miles including parking lots and stretches of land near the /*Pacific Coast Highway*/.

The beach cleaning event was sponsored by Stater Bros. and Coca-Cola. Joe Milligan with California State Parks said the companies provided the funding and the volunteers to drive the event.
