Nicolas Cage was released from the Orleans Parrish Jail in New Orleans around 2:20 p.m. ET on Saturday, following an arrest for domestic abuse, OnTheRedCarpet.com has confirmed.
The 47-year-old actor was taken into custody around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, according to a statement from New Orleans Police spokesman Garry Flot. According to the statement, Cage was found arguing with his wife Alice Kim outside in the city's French Quarter.
"(Cage) and his wife were standing in front of a residence that he insisted was the property the couple was renting," Flot said in the statement, as reported by Reuters. "She disagreed and Cage grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her to what he believed was the correct address."
When the police got involved, the actor started arguing with the officer and was put in jail for the evening, according to the statement.
"At that point, an officer who had been flagged down by on-lookers drove up on the couple, immediately observed that Cage was heavily intoxicated and ordered him out of the cab, which prompted Cage to start yelling," Flot said. "The officers subsequently took Cage to Central Lock-Up."
The New Orleans Police Department reported that there were no visible signs of injury on Kim's arm. Cage will make a court appearance on May 31.
Official records state that the actor was arrested for one count of domestic abuse battery and one count of disturbing the peace.
Cage has been married to Kim, who is his third wife, for almost seven years. They have one son together, 5 year old Kal-El, who was named after Superman's birth name.
Cage's most recent movies, "Season of the Witch" and "Drive Angry 3D" flopped at the box office. Cage won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in the 1995 movie, "Leaving Las Vegas."
The actor's rep had no immediate comment on the report.
