The incident happened Friday night at Balboa Boulevard and Woodley Avenue.
Police said a man was driving north on Balboa when he lost control of the car, ran off the road and rolled several times.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A female passenger in the car was taken to an area hospital with what police describe as severe injuries.
Her condition was not immediately known.
