20th Century Fox's animated "Rio" is winning the weekend box office so far, grossing an estimated $10.2 million on Friday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The 3D family film is expected to bring in $37 million over the weekend and has earned nearly $80 million overseas in less than a week.
Rio tells the story of Blu, a domesticated macaw from Minnesota who meets the fiercely independent Jewel and together the birds go on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro. Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Jane Lynch, Jamie Foxx and Leslie Mann voiced the animated characters.
Dimension Film's "Scream 4" grossed an estimated $8 million on Friday and is expected to earn around $21 million over the weekend.
Robert Redford's new film, "The Conspirator" had a limited release of 706 theaters and grossed an estimated $1.1 million on Friday.
"Insidious" is still holding a strong point in the box office, grossing an estimated $2.32 million on its third Friday and a cumulative $31.5 million. The film cost under $1.5 million to produce.
"Hop" is also remaining strong, earning an estimated $2.3 million in its third Friday and is expected to earn a cumulative $85 million.
