BlackBerry releases iPad competitor

LOS ANGELES

BlackBerry has just released its highly publicized PlayBook.

The seven-inch tablet computer has received some good reviews for being user-friendly, but it is still behind on applications.

There are just 3,000 apps currently optimized for the tablet.

The tablet does have front and rear cameras for taking photos and video chatting, as well as Wi-Fi capabilities and 16 gigabytes of memory.

The makers of BlackBerry developed a new software system for the PlayBook, diverging from Google's Android software, which most non-iPad tablets currently use.

The PlayBook's starting price is $499. Apple charges the same price for the cheapest iPad.
