Mattel loses battle over popular Bratz dolls

SANTA ANA, Calif.

In a verdict read on Thursday morning, a Santa Ana jury found that Mattel does not own the idea for Bratz or any sketches that led to the doll and said MGA had proven that Mattel acted willfully and maliciously in misappropriating the secrets.

The panel also found that MGA did not steal any trade secrets when it created the pouty, hip-hop inspired doll.

Mattel sued MGA for copyright infringement, claiming the Bratz designer created the dolls while he worked at Mattel.
