Rachel Bilson plays an art student, a ballerina and a fashion model in three short films promoting Magnum ice cream bars, which were directed by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld.
The 29-year-old actress is best known for her role as Summer in the teen drama series "The O.C.," which ran between 2003 and 2007 and also starred Mischa Barton. Bilson recently shot the short films in Paris.
"There are three little movies," Largerfeld says in a behind-the-scenes video interview for the short films. "The first one is in an art school. She wants an ice cream. Teacher told her that her sketch was bad. The minute she has one, she has her ice cream, she works beautifully. The other one is a famous ballerina with lots of success. 'How can I get to my dressing room as quick as possible and have an ice cream?'"
Ballerinas have been featured in pop culture more often than usual in recent months following the success of the 2010 movie "Black Swan," which featured Natalie Portman as a troubled ballet dancer and earned the actress her first Oscar. The top-rated ABC ballroom dancing show "Dancing With The Stars" featured a "Swan Lake" segment on a recent episode.
The third Lagerfeld-directed short film features Bilson as a model.
"A 5-foot-2 model , if you can believe it," the actress says in the behind-the-scenes video.
Bilson begins a photo shoot wearing a dress and a short, red-haired wig. The photographer tells her to take it off and change into a different dress. She then asks for a short break and bites hungrily into a Magnum ice cream bar. The photo shoot then goes swimmingly.
Magnum ice cream bars, which are usually covered in a thick layer of Belgian milk chocolate, are popular in many parts of the world, namely Europe, and is launching in the United States. Lagerfeld andBilson recently attended the premiere of the Magnum Ice Cream Film Series during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
"I think it's important to indulge in the things that make you happy," Bilson says in the behind-the-scenes video. "Personally, Magnum ice cream makes me happy because I love sweets."
After "The O.C." ended, Bilson went on to guest-star on shows such as "Chuck" and "How I Met Your Mother" and appeared in the 2008 movie Jumper with on again, off-again boyfriend Hayden Christensen. Bilson recently shot a television pilot called "Hart of Dixie" for the CW network.
