Is Ryan Phillippe ready to quit acting?
The 36-year-old ex-husband of Reese Witherspoon is known for films such as "Cruel Intentions" and "The Lincoln Lawyer" and can be seen in the new movie "The Bang Bang Club," which had a limited U.S. release on Friday, April 22.
He was recently quoted as telling the New York Post: "It's so hard to go out in LA. I'm going to move. I'm going to spend a third of my year in New York. I think I'm going to end my acting career. I'm so introverted. I'm ready to be behind the scenes. I'm 36, but I've been doing this for 20 years."
His spokesperson had no immediate comment on the report, which also said real estate brokers have been showing Phillippe places in New York City.
However, Us Weekly quoted a source close to Phillippe as saying: "He's been talking about expanding his talents to producing and directing, but never give up acting. He's not retiring from acting anytime soon!"
Phillippe is set to shoot more films within the next year, casting lists show. The actor was named one of the cast members of the movie "Chronicle," which hits theaters in 2012 and reportedly stars Milla Jovovich and Kate Mara. Phillippe is also linked to the 2013 film "By Virtue Fall," which stars James Spader, Carla Gugino and Eric Bana.
As for leaving Los Angeles, it is not uncommon for actors to reside in other states or even abroad as they continue their careers. In December 2010, Phillippe put his 5-bedroom Hollywood Hills home for sale for $7.45 million, listings show, months after he and actress Abbie Cornish, ended their relationship.
Phillippe has two children with Witherspoon, who also lives in Southern California. Their daughter Ava is 11 and their son Deacon is 7. Witherspoon recently married Hollywood agent Jim Tosh.
Phillippe has been the target of tabloid gossip in recent months due to a reported relationship with actress Amanda Seyfried. The two have not confirmed it. He has also not commented about reports that have said Phillippe may have gotten actress Alexis Knapp, his reported ex-girlfriend, pregnant. She has told friends that she's expecting the actor's child in June, People magazine reported.
