OTRC: Princess Diana's gowns displayed in New Hampshire exhibit

As people all over the world prepare to watch the upcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince's late mother's fashion gets its own bit of spotlight.

A collection of Princess Diana's gowns, stories as well as videos about her life will be on display in Plymouth, New Hampshire, according to the Associated Press.

The exhibit, called "Diana -- The People's Princess," is featured at The Common Man's Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center starting on Monday and will run until May 8.

According to a press statement featured on Facebook via the venue's website, it will be the last time the exhibit will be on display to the American public before the dresses are put up for auction.

Maureen Dunkel, who is credited as the owner of the collection of Diana's dresses said in a statement, "I've run the People's Princess Charitable Foundation and had these gowns and artifacts as part of my life since 1997." She added, "I felt it was time to bring them home to a place I hold so dear and say a final goodbye before I release the collection so that others may cherish their history and meaning."

The exhibit showcases some of Princess Diana's most well-known gowns, which she auctioned for charity just weeks before her death in 1997. The collection includes the ink blue silk velvet dress she wore to the White House State Dinner in 1985 when she took to the dance floor with John Travolta and the black silk velvet dress worn in her official royal portrait.

According to the Facebook statement, Dunkel and The Flying Monkey venue are donating a portion of the exhibit's ticket sales to The Cinderella Project of New Hampshire. The non-profit organization gives formal gowns and accessories, free of charge, to young women facing financial hardship.

Tickets for the exhibit are $19.95 for adults and $14.95 for children age 13 and under.
