Karina Smirnoff tripped and fell after stepping on Ralph Macchio's long coat at the beginning of their performance on week six of "Dancing With The Stars." The couple recovered quickly and got right back into their Paso Doble.
"You know, we had a mishap. It's live theatre. All I cared is that she was OK and then it was about, you know, showtime," Macchio said.
The dancers had a split second of panic on their faces, but continued the choreography. Despite the fall, the two received 24 out of 30 for their dance to C+C Music Factory's hit, "Everybody Dance Now." The judges praised them for not getting lost or giving up.
Smirnoff said it was just a mishap, and no blame is being placed on anyone.
"I wish it was something that like a big mistake, but I just slipped on a coat. It has never happened in dress rehearsal, in camera blocking, nothing," said Smirnoff. "I'm OK. One bruise, one bruise less, it feels fine."
"Now she feels like I feel every day- in pain," Macchio joked.
Macchio said during practice, they actually thought about the long coat getting in the way, but the concern was that he was going to trip on it.
"She had this matrixy vision, this sort of futuristic matrixy vision, for this character, and that's what I love about her. She thinks from soup to nuts, bottom to top, the whole vision," Macchio said of his partner. "She spent a lot of time making sure I wasn't stepping on the coat when I came up."
As for elimination night on Tuesday, Smirnoff said, "I'm worried about tomorrow. I'm always worried about tomorrow."
