Simon van Kempen, husband of Alex McCord from the Bravo series "The Real Housewives of New York City," pokes fun at his experience on the show and at reality television in general with his debut single "I Am Real."

The lyrics contain lines such as: "Gold and diamonds glitter / But the taste is slightly bitter / When wives attack behind my back / They track me on their Twitter."

It also references a term McCord used on "The Real Housewives of New York" while referring to fellow cast member Sonja Morgan - "You know I do my best / I dress up to impress / But she's causing me stress / Thug in a cocktail dress."

Van Kempen, an Australian native, used to work as a hotel manager in New York and left his position in 2010 to form a social media company that specializes in the "luxury and boutique sectors." He and McCord have two sons, Francois and Johan.

Van Kempen is the first "Househusband" to record a single, record company JSM Music said in a statement.

"Not many people know this, but I spent my childhood and early 20's studying and performing as a musician," the statement quoted Van Kempen as saying. "More than anything, I wanted the track to be fun, irreverent and to talk about my real experience on the 'Real Housewives of New York City.' The title and lyrics are cheeky but hey, that's the REAL me!"

"The Real Housewives of New York City" debuted in 2008 and is one of several shows in the hit reality television franchise, which is known for airing heated squabbles between its cast members. Its fourth season began airing in early April.

"I Am Real" is now available on iTunes. You can listen to it below. What do you think of the song? Vote in our poll.
