OTRC: Paris Hilton boyfriend 'attacked' by 'stalker' at burglary trial

Paris Hilton appears with her boyfriend Cy Waits after he is confronted by a man she calls a 'stalker' and just before they testify at burglary trial. / James Rainford is apprehended on April 27, 2011 after witnesses say he attacked Paris Hilton's boyfriend Cy Waits outside a courthouse in Van Nuys, California. The heiress and Waits had arrived to testify at a burglary trial.

Paris Hilton says her boyfriend Cy Waits was attacked by her "stalker" on Wednesday, April 27, as the two arrived at a court to testify at a trial for a suspected burglar, OnTheRedCarpet.com reports.

The man, James Rainford, in January pleaded no contest to civil assault after he was arrested in October 2010 for sneaking past a security gate at Hilton's home on a bicycle, knocking on her front door and trying to fight off her security guards. He was sentenced to three years of probation.

The incident occured just as Hilton, wearing a low-cut, short-sleeved blazer, and Waits were walking into the courthouse, holding hands.

Rainford, who seen holding a plastic bottle, then grabbed Waits by the neck from behind, OnTheRedCarpet.com has learned. One of Hilton's bodyguards tackled him to the ground.

UPDATE at 7:55 p.m. ET: James Rainford was later arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery on a person and was being held on $20,000 bail. He has not yet been charged.

After the incident, as Rainford was being led away by the heiress' bodyguard, he was asked if he had tried to attack Hilton.

"No," said Rainford, who identified himself as "Jim Rainford." "I've already proposed to her and her dad already said 'Yes.' I wanted to her get her to sign my picture of me proposing to her."

"That is the guy who came on the bike to my house," Hilton said, calling the man "a stalker." "Oh my god, that is another intruder who came to my house on a bike. This guy just attacked my boyfriend."

When asked if he was okay, Waits said: "Yeah, I'm good."

Hilton and Waits had appeared at the Los Angeles area court to testify against Nathan Parada, who was arrested and charged with felony first degree burglary with a person present after security men spotted him wielding two knives outside her house on August 24, 2010.

Jury selection had wrapped up hours earlier for the burglary trial. Parada has pleaded not guilty and has no known prior link to the actress, who was inside her home with Waits at the time of the reported incident. If convicted, Parada could face up to six years in state prison. He has been behind bars since his arrest.

Los Angeles police said at the time that the man was arrested for battery after he passed by the security gate at Hilton's home and knocked on the door of her house. Like Rainford, Parada confronted security guards and tried to fight them off, police said.

"So Scary, just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes," Hilton wrote on her Twitter page the morning of the incident. "Cops are here arresting him."
