The man was shot in the stomach on the 8600 block of Cedros Avenue just before 11 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Police said patrol officers were investigating a gang shooting that had occurred earlier, and while they were walking through an apartment building, a man armed with semi-automatic weapon pointed it toward officers.
An officer fired one shot, which struck the suspect in the abdomen. No officers were injured in the incident.
The area was closed to general traffic due to the investigation.
This was the department's third officer-involved shooting on Wednesday. The other two, both fatal, were in Watts.
