State assembly bill targets city of Vernon

VERNON, Calif.

The /*California State Assembly*/ has passed a bill that would revoke incorporation from cities with fewer than 150 residents. Vernon has just 94 residents, and about 1,800 companies.

/*Assembly Speaker John Perez*/, who brought the bill, says city officials have engaged in rampant corruption.

The /*Vernon Chamber of Commerce*/ issued a statement saying the bill threatens jobs and revenue. It now goes to the /*California State Senate*/.

If passed into law, Vernon would become an unincorporated part of Los Angeles County.
