ABC7 wants to help you pay it forward

LOS ANGELES

The film was released more than a decade ago. It was inspired by the book with the same title, written by Catherine Ryan Hyde, who helped found the Pay It Forward Foundation.

"A couple of total strangers in L.A. came to my rescue late at night in a bad neighborhood and put out a car fire for me when I thought they were going to kill me and instead they came to my rescue. The good Samaritan thing, and they disappeared before I could even say thank you," Hyde said of how she got the idea.

And now ABC7 is giving you a chance to get involved.

ABC7 is giving seven people $7,000, but the catch is they have to pay it forward. The idea is to find a worthy nonprofit organization that could take that $7,000 and really do some good with it.

All you have to do is make a short video - three minutes or less - about the nonprofit organization you want to help. Show us how the amazing work they're doing now and what they could do with the extra cash. You can even make the video on your cell phone!

Then go to abc7.com/payitforward, fill out the mandatory submission form (make sure to fill in all the blanks) and upload your video. You must submit a video to be considered.

The deadline for entries is May 12. Pay It Forward honorees will be announced May 23-25.
