Calabasas High students may be charged with hate crime

CALABASAS, Calif.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's detectives said they will seek the hate crime enhancement to the felony vandalism charges facing the students.

Doors, walls, sidewalks and a stop sign were spray-painted last week with swastikas, anti-Semitic and anti-black slurs and profanities directed at specific students and teachers.

The cost to repair the damage exceeded $6,000.

Initially investigators said the teens didn't intend to target a specific ethnic group or religion. There isn't any word on why the investigators' assessment has changed.

They're set to present the evidence to the district attorney's office Tuesday. The district attorney will make the decision about which charges will be filed.
