Wild chase of stolen car ends in driveway

EL SERENO, LOS ANGELES

The pursuit of the male driver began in Boyle Heights at Whittier Boulevard and Eastman Avenue at about 8:20 a.m. when officers from LAPD's Hollenbeck Station ran the plates on a Nissan Sentra, and it came back stolen. Officers tried to pull him over, but the driver refused to stop.

The suspect led police through the Alhambra area, driving erratically. The car was seen driving up on curbs and blowing through intersections.

After fleeing for about 40 minutes, the vehicle stopped at a home in El Sereno. When the suspect refused to get out of the car, police busted out the windows and dragged the suspect out.

According to LAPD Dep. Chief Jose Perez, the suspect suffered minor scrapes from glass when he was pulled from the vehicle. No officers were injured in the incident.

"It was really crazy," said neighbor Arri Lopez. "Having it come down the street is really kind of exciting but really scary, seeing all the cops and helicopters and firemen."

The name of the suspect has not been released. Police are trying to determine if the suspect had any connection to the neighborhood he stopped in.
