Authorities said the officer was cut off by the other vehicle and hit at Stocker Street and Palermo Boulevard just before 1 p.m.
The officer was rushed to UCLA Medical Center, and police say he was conscious and breathing after the accident.
The suspect's vehicle was only described as a dark-colored SUV. No suspect description was available.
