Selena Gomez has opened up about her reported relationship with Justin Bieber, saying she is unsure if she has been in love and adding the "passion" the teen idol's female fans have for him is "beautiful."

The 18-year-old singer and actress and Bieber, a 17-year-old pop star often followed by group of young girls, have appeared cozy in many photographs since December 2010.

"I maybe had a first love and had my heart broken, but reflecting on it, I don't think that was love," Gomez told Seventeen magazine in a recent interview, when asked if she has ever been in love. " I think that was just me being 15 and going, 'Oh my gosh! I know I'm in love. I'm going to marry him.' So I don't think that was love."

"I think as I'm getting older and having more in-depth relationships, maybe I'll experience it.," she added. "At the moment, I don't know, exactly, if I've been in love."

Gomez talked about her relationship with Bieber, a longtime friend, in an interview with New York radio station Z100 in March.

Gomez and Bieber made headlines when they attended Vanity Fair's Oscar after-party together on February 27 following the Academy Awards.

"That was our prom," Gomez told Seventeen.

When asked if there was a reason she had "decided to be more open this time around, with Justin," Gomez said: "I don't like hiding. I do like to keep certain things to myself, but at the end of the day, I'm 18, and I'm going to fall in love. I'm going to hang out with people, and I'm going to explore myself, and I'm okay with that."

Some of Bieber's fans, most of which are female, have referenced Gomez in threatening messages on Twitter and other social networking websites. The singer released a song in March called "Who Says?," which she dedicated to her "haters."

"I do see the passion that a lot of these girls have, and it's beautiful," said Gomez, who travels with a private security guard. "I love it. I really do. It's special."
