LAPD detectives arrested 29-year-old Gazi Kabir Thursday afternoon and charged him with unlawful sex with a minor.
According to the school's website the teacher had been appointed in 2010 and taught social studies.
The LAPD says the suspect had at least a two-month relationship with a 15-year-old student. They also say he had a prior crime report filed against him in 2007 for child annoyance. That allegedly occurred at a school in South Los Angeles, but there was no criminal filing in that case.
According to public documents dated November 2010, Kabir had his certification suspended by the state of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. That suspension was for 14 days. The suspension was for moral or unprofessional misconduct.
School officials did not comment Thursday.
