2 hurt in CSU Fullerton fraternity party stabbing

FULLERTON, Calif.

The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. Friday in front of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity house, which is just north of Cal State Fullerton.

Police said several people were standing outside when a group of about six to eight men confronted two men, a 21-year-old and 22-year-old, trying to crash the party. An argument broke out in front of the fraternity house when someone pulled out a knife.

"There was a fight," said Sgt. Andrew Goodrich from, "During the fight one of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed two of the victims in the back and torso area. Those victims were transported to UCI Medical Center and are now in stable condition. But one of them did have a serious injury from the stab wound."

Allan Mireles said one victim went to his fraternity house next door asking for help.

"He was bleeding really bad through the nose," said Mireles. "His nose looked like it was broke, just saying 'there's a knife outside, there's a knife."

However the advisor for the fraternity is telling a different story.

"There wasn't even a party last night," said Fraternity Chapter Advisor Erik Alden. "There was a commotion out in the parking lot. They went to go check on it. They heard glass being broken and they came out to see what was going on. And that's when one of our guys got punched, and they went to pull him out and that's when he got stabbed."

There are a number of fraternity houses on Teri Place just north of Cal State Fullerton. Residents said there have been several incidents in this area over the past few years and they feel it's getting out of hand.

"There's been fights," said Fullerton resident Amy Revo. "There are always parties, and there are just problems all the time."

Police aren't sure if the suspects go to this school. They said there have been other incidents in the area but something like this is rare.

"I know the neighborhood is kind of sketch sometimes," said student Casey Chocek. "I would have never thought that any of the fraternity guys would get hurt or anything bad would happen at this house, especially because they are so sweet."

Cal State Fullerton administrators are investigating the incident and paid a visit to the fraternity house Friday.

"Talk to our students, collect some information," said Cal State Fullerton administrator Sy Abrego. "See how they are doing, and that's it."

Fullerton police detectives are searching for the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call 714-738-6700.
