An 18-year-old student was walking in Ross Snyder Recreation Center at about 7:25 a.m. Monday when an unknown suspect approached the teen on foot and fired a gun at him, striking him in the leg and the hip. The shooting occurred near 41st St. and Compton Ave., according to the LAPD.
The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Jefferson High School, a few blocks away from the park, was partially locked down for about 20 minutes.
Extra school police patrols were expected at the campus from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.
