Michael Bolton says filming his recent "Saturday Night Live" digital short, which saw him dress up like Johnny Depp's "Pirates of the Caribbean" character, Captain Jack Sparrow, as well as in drag, was one of the "highlights" of his career.
Bolton, a Grammy-winning adult contemporary singer who found mainstream success with his covers of "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," made his comments on his website on Sunday, May 8, a day after his digital short aired on the NBC sketch comedy series.
"Working with Andy (Samberg), Akiva (Schaffer) and Jorma (Taccone) on the Jack Sparrow digital short was one of the highlights of my career and most memorable experiences of my life," said Bolton, 58.
In the clip, he pitches a song with a "big, sexy hook" to the writers of the infamous "SNL" skit and track "(Expletive) in a Box." Cast member Andy Samberg and the rest of the Lonely Island trio don't appear impressed by his pop-rap mash-up, which showcases him dressed as Sparrow on a pirate ship.
Bolton later parodies the film "Forrest Gump," channels Julia Roberts' character in leopard print and a blonde wig as "Erin Brockovich" and wields a gun and throws around white powder as drug lord Tony Montana from "Scarface."
"For the few people on the planet who might not know, these guys are brilliant, funny and beyond super talented," Bolton added. "They made me do things I never would have expected to be comfortable with and I'm so glad I did. Truly grateful to be a part of this project and CANNOT WAIT for the chance to work with the guys again."
The song, called "Jack Sparrow," is included on Lonely Island's upcoming second album, "Turtleneck and Chain," which is set for release on Tuesday, May 10.
The fourth "Pirates" movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," comes out on May 20. Bolton's 21st studio album, "Gems: The Duets Collection," is set for release in June. Bolton is also an actor and last year, he appeared on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars." He was the second contestant to be voted off the 11th season, after David Hasselhoff.
The "SNL" episode also saw the return of "SNL" alum Tina Fey, who hosted the show and reprised her character of Sarah Palin. She also showcased her baby bump, along with fellow pregnant show alum Mara Rudolph.
