Hayden Panettiere of "Heroes" and "Scream 4" fame and Wladimir Klitschko, a Ukrainian boxing champion, have broken up after dating for two years.
Klitschko, 35, recently accompanied Panettiere, 21, to the Tribeca Film Festival in April (pictured above). The actress' spokesperson confirmed the split to OnTheRedCarpet.com on Thursday, May 12.
"Even though we've decided splitting up is best for both of us, we have an amazing amount of love and respect for each other and remain very close friends," Panettiere said in a statement first carried by People magazine.
Klitschko said he and the actress "had a great time together, but it's not that easy to manage a relationship between two continents."
"I have a lot of respect for Hayden as a person and as a friend, and I believe we'll keep our friendship even after the separation," he added.
Prior to dating Klitschko, Panettiere was linked to her "Heroes" co-star Milo Ventimiglia. The two dated for at least a year and broke up around February 2009.
Panettiere is known for her cheerleader role in the series "Heroes" and recently starred in the film "Scream 4" and the controversial Lifetime movie, "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy."
She also voices Little Red Riding Hood in the animated movie "Hoodwinked Too!" and recorded the song "I Can Do It Alone" for its soundtrack, as well as a music video. She released her first single, "Wake Up Call," in 2008.
Panettiere can be seen next in the movie "Carmel," which stars Josh Hutcherson as a teenage boy who arrives in Carmel, California and is inducted into a community of art forgers.
