Lake Elsinore residents want crackdown on mine operations

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif.

The State Mining & Geology Board held hearings on Thursday to determine whether the state, not the city of /*Lake Elsinore*/, should oversee mining.

People living near the mines complain about the dust, noise and light coming from the Castle & Cooke mine, saying they've led to headaches and respiratory problems.

Residents claim the city has done nothing about it.

Mining for clay and metals has been going on in North Lake Elsinore since the 19th century.
