Researchers find target gene linked to obesity diseases

LOS ANGELES

British scientists have identified a gene linked to diabetes and cholesterol. It's what they're calling a "master switch" that controls other genes found in fat in the body.

Researchers say this is the first major study that shows how small changes in one master regulator gene can cause metabolic effects in other genes.

They say the discovery should help in the search for treatments.
