Seth MacFarlane, creator behind the animated series "Family Guy" has agreed to do a reboot of "The Flintstones," the Associated Press reports.
The news came during the network's upfront presentation where Fox announceed new and returning shows for the upcoming television season. According to the wire service, the reboot won't be on the air until 2013.
"One of the first things I ever drew was Fred Flintstone," MacFarlane said at the presentation, according to Entertainment Weekly. "The characters will look the same but the only thing that will change is the stories." he said.
"The Flintstones" was an animated comedy that ran from 1960 to 1966. The series spawned a few spin-offs and films including the 1994 live-action adaptation starring John Goodman as Fred Flintstone and Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble.
Back in March, it was announced "Family Guy" and its spin-off show "The Cleveland Show" were renewed by Fox for another season. The renewal means that "Family Guy" will have a tenth season, while "The Cleveland Show" will gear up for its fourth.
