The most recent bid for the "gravity-defying hat" Princess Beatrice wore to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine, which was put on auction on eBay earlier this month, is more than $30,300.
Proceeds from Beatrice's hat's eBay auction, which opened on May 12, are to go to the charities UNICEF and for Children in Crisis. As of Wednesday, May 18, the auction has drawn 62 bids from around the world, with the most current being 18,800 pounds sterling, or $30,358. The auction is set to end on May 22.
"I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted," Beatrice, 22, had said in a statement posted on the listing page. "It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have."
The listing says the hat is "worn on the front hairline, secured by a clear wire headband that is easily disguised by the wearer's hair. This is a gravity-defying hat!"
Beatrice and her sister Eugenie, 21, attended the wedding of William and Catherine on April 29 with their father, Prince Andrew. Their mother and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, was not invited.
In the United Kingdom, fancy hats with giant decorations are often seen at high-profile events, church services and especially at weddings, especially those thrown by the royal family (see photos of the best hats at the royal wedding).
