Kaiser union workers strike for a day

LOS ANGELES

Members of the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) are protesting staffing levels at Kaiser, as well as proposed cuts to healthcare coverage and retirement benefits.

"They're not giving us enough staff, and they're not giving us enough voice as to people who do the work," said Susan Whitney, a member of the Nation Union of Healthcare Workers. "We're ready to go back and continue negotiating any time Kaiser is ready to, we've been negotiating for months and months now."

A statement from Kaiser media relations says: "We are currently in contract negotiations with all three bargaining units of the NUHW. Our goal is to reach a fair and equitable contract with the union. In the meantime, the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center is open and we will provide care for our patients."
