Ventura police officer on leave after shooting death of man

VENTURA, Calif.

Authorities said Mario Lopez, 44, was shot and killed during a confrontation with police Friday night.

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Leighton Drive. Authorities allege that Lopez rushed an officer with a knife in hand and was shot.

Several bullet holes were left in the walls of the home.

The officer involved is said to be an eight-year veteran of the Ventura police force.
