OTRC: Keith Richards says he played Jack Sparrow's dad in 'Pirates' for love

Keith Richards talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com about 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.'

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards can add another acting credit to his resume as he reprises his role as Jack Sparrow's father Captain Teague in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and says he does it "for love."

Johnny Depp, who plays Jack Sparrow, once said that the musician helped inspire his character. Richards, who was named the "10th greatest guitarist of all time" by Rolling Stone magazine, debuted as Captain Teague in the previous third film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," in 2007.

"I'm very happy to be involved in it at all and I have great fun doing it 'cause it's not what I do usually," Richards 67, told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the recent premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." at Disneyland.

"For me, it's kind of interesting," he added. "Makes a change. It sort of expands my resume. I do it for fun. I do it for love."

In the film, Jack crosses paths with Angelica (Penelope Cruz), a woman who he slighted in the past and they agree to help each other to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Cruz's character eventually forces Jack aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, a ship belonging to the most dangerous pirate alive, Blackbeard (Ian McShane), who happens to be her father.

The Rolling Stones formed in 1962 and the band members last toured together as recently as 2007. Richards once admitted to snorting his father's ashes with cocaine and dealt with drug addiction for much of his life.

Richards published an autobiography in December 2010 and his "Pirates" co-star Johnny Depp read the audiobook.
