Is "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery dating runner-up Lauren Alaina?
Alaina, 16, gave the 17-year-old country crooner a congratulatory kiss after host Ryan Seacrest announced he had won "American Idol" during the 10th season finale on Wednesday. She placed second.
"We're really close friends," McCreery told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other news outlets backstage after the show. "I met her Day 1 of 'Hollywood Week.' We've grown really tight over the weeks because we've been to school together but I don't know about the dating part - she's just being funny."
"She's such a sweetheart - we've grown so close. It's just a special relationship we have," he added.
Alaina was also asked about the issue backstage.
"Everyone keeps asking if me and Scotty are dating and all I have to say is ask Scotty!" she said. "I will never tell."
Alaina later Tweeted: "We are just really good friends."
The two-hour "American Idol" finale featured performances by this season's contestants, Lady Gaga, Judas Priest, Tim McGraw, Jack Black, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Steven Tyler, Gladys Knight and Bono, among others. McCreery closed the show with a tearful performance of his first single, "I Love You This Big." Both his cover and Alaina's rendition of "Like My Mother Does" are available on iTunes.
McCreery plans to soon record his first major record and told reporters: "I want to go to Nashville and get cracking on this album. The fans want to hear my music, they kept me around, so I think it's my duty to get them the music as quick as possible."
