Jack Black is well-suited for slapstick comedies, but the funny man only needed to lend his voice to the animated "Kung Fu Panda 2" to get the laughs and the actor admits that his kung fu moves have benefited from the sequel.
"Po's [kung fu] skills have improved," Black told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the film's premiere. "I'm going to say mine have as well."
In the animated film, which is set for release on Thursday, May 26, Black voices the character the panda Po, who must protect the Valley of Peace. Dustin Hoffman voices Master Shifu, a red panda who trained Po. The sequel to the hit 2008 movie depicts Po's journey to defeat Lord Shen, who is voiced by Gary Oldman, who wants to conquer China and destroy kung fu.
"Me and Gary [Oldman] and I had to get together live and in person to record our first scene together which is the exception to the rule," Black told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other news outlets. "Usually, you go in there by yourself and just do all your recording but they needed the magic of the two of us together to nail the scene."
Black married musician Tanya Haden in March 2006. The couple has two sons, Samuel Jason, 4, and Thomas David, 3. Black revealed that he might have a play date with his co-star, Angelina Jolie who voices his comrade Tigress and her six children.
"There is a loose plan for a play date [with Angelina's kids]."
Jolie said at the premiere that she would love to continue working on the franchise.
"I would love to do more, you come to work in your pajamas and bring your kids, you work with Jack Black and Gary Oldman, I mean there's just no easier job in the world."
