OTRC: Adele postpones tour dates after coming down with laryngitis

Adele performed 'Rolling Deep' on the 'Dancing With The Stars' stage on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.

Chart topping singer Adele has been forced to cancel five dates on the sold-out North American leg of her tour after coming down with laryngitis, according to a statement on the singer's website.

The singer was diagnosed on Thursday while she was in Minneapolis, Minnesota and doctors ordered immediate rest and the night's concert was later postponed.

"I've been told to cancel tonight's show in Minneapolis because my voice has gone," The singer wrote on her official website on May 26. "I hate to cancel especially at such short notice. I am truly devastated, I'm here in the city and tried to do soundcheck at the venue but if I push through it tonight, it'll take me longer to get better and more shows may need cancelling. Please forgive me!"

Adele then performed on Saturday in Denver but was then forced to postpone shows in Salt Lake City, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. The singer is set to resume her tour on June 4 in San Francisco.

The 23-year-old Grammy Award-winning Brit is best known for her hit song "Rolling In The Deep." The song is featured on Adele's second studio album, "21," and entered the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart 20 weeks ago. More than 2 million digital copies of the song have been sold in the United States.
