Kid Rock to play at Detroit baseball park

DETROIT

The 40-year-old Detroit-based musician made the announcement on Thursday in a slightly unorthodox fashion.

Rock, Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom and retired Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios used paddle boards to cross the Detroit River to Belle Isle. Rock then strolled barefoot to a beachfront microphone and lectern and said he'd be playing Comerica Park Aug. 12 with opening act Sammy Hagar and the Wabos.

The rocker said Chelios called him a day earlier and asked if he wanted to go paddle-boarding.

Knowing his booking manager wanted him to announce the August show soon, he combined both activities into one.
