OTRC: Shania Twain gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame (Video)

Grammy-winning singer Shania Twain was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, June 2.

Shania Twain was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, June 2.

The 45-year-old Grammy winning country singer is known for songs like "You're Still the One," "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" and "That Don't Impress Me Much."

Twain received the 2,442nd star on the Walk of Fame. It is located at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the W Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. Wearing a white blouse and slim black pants, the singer accepted the honor at a ceremony hosted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

"Putting things into perspective - there's nothing like a child to help you do that," Twain said. "A few years ago, it was my 6-year-old son's first day at a new school. I was putting him on the school bus and a little girl already on the school bus recognized me and said, 'Shania Twain! You're a star!' I just smiled at her enthusiasm, not sure what else to say."

"I mean why is a girl from Timmons, Ontario standing here, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?" she added. "I really don't know. Where I come from and where I am today... it's a small miracle, to be honest, that I am here today."

The singer, who was named Eilleen Regina Edwards when she was born, grew up in Ontario, Canada. She first sang on CBC television's "Tommy Hunter Show" when she was just 13 years old. She was also the lead singer in a local cover band called Longshot.

Twain grew up with two sisters and two half brothers and in 1987, her mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident. At age 22, Twain became her younger siblings' guardian.

In 1993, Twain released her self-titled debut album in North America. It received positive reviews. But her third album, "Come On Over," is what launched her career, selling over 39 million copies worldwide. The album earned Twain four Grammy Awards.

She last released a studio album in 2002. The record, "Up!," has sold more than 11 million copies in the United States.

In 2008, Twain and her first husband Robert "Mutt" Lange, a record producer and the father of her son Eja, 9, separated after 14 years of marriage.

The country and pop star has been speaking to the press recently to promote her new memoir, "From This Moment On." At the ceremony, she read from the book, which details her struggle with her separation from her ex-husband, who allegedly cheated on her.

The singer says she learned that he was involved with her assistant and close friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. She and Lange have not confirmed they were involved at the time. After Twain and Lange divorced, the singer married the bearer of the bad news - Thiebaud's husband, Frederic.

Twain's new OWN reality series, "Why Not?," which also showcases her struggle and her journey to regain her voice after the scandal, debuted on May 8. The show gave Oprah Winfrey's new cable network its highest premiere ratings.

"That is the truth of being a star," Twain said later in the ceremony. "Our job is to make you happy and entertain you, come thick or thin - and I can tell you that I do that with the greatest of pleasure. Thank you all so much!"
