Jennifer Lawrence says she prepared for her role as Mystique in the upcoming "X-Men: First Class" with lots of superhero training and confidence with her body.
Lawrence's character, a shape-shifter, was portrayed by Rebecca Romijn in recent movies based on the Marvel comic book franchise. The new movie is a prequel and was released in theaters on Friday, June 3.
Like Romijn, Lawrence's body was covered from head to toe in blue make-up, which took to eight hours a day to apply.
"I definitely toned down on the cake towards when I would be naked," Lawrence, 20, told OnTheRedcarpet.com host Rachel Smith in a satellite interview on May 20. "I knew going into it that I'm happy with my body, I'm fine with my body."
"If I was going to be naked in a movie I'd want to look like a woman and not, you know, a starved boy," she added. "So there wasn't too much pressure."
Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter in January that she and the seven women from the make-up department responsible for painting her body every day became very close.
"Nothing's sacred anymore," Lawrence told the industry paper. "Those girls and I got so close. They were painting me naked every day for months. It was kind of like going to a really bizarre sleepover."
"X-Men: First Class" film tells of how Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr were once friends and how they later turned into Professor X, who ends up leading the "X-Men" in a fight against evil, and his adversary, Magneto.
As for the rest of the preparation for the shoot, Lawrence told OnTheRedCarpet.com: "We all did lots of training, kind of superhero training. I trained two hours a day, every day."
January Jones of "Mad Men" plays Emma Frost, Kevin Bacon is Sebastian Shaw, Zoe Kravitz is Angel Salvador and Rose Byrne is Dr. Moira MacTaggert. Nicholas Hoult plays Beast, Jason Flemyng is Azazel, Lucas Till is Havok, Oliver Platt is Man in Black and Edi Gathegi of "Twilight" fame portrays Darwin.
"I'm aware of the fanbase and I am terrified," Lawrence said. "So job well done [laughs]. I hope I don't disappoint."
