Kern County wildfire spurs evacuation of 12 homes

KEYESVILLE, KERN COUNTY

A spokeswoman with the U.S. Forest Service said the fire began near Keyesville, 45 miles northeast of Bakersfield, and burned 160 acres of grass and brush by Sunday evening.

Pioneer Point campground and Dutch John Flats - a community of about 12 homes with only one dirt road in and out - have been asked to evacuate as a precaution, but some decided to stay. The spokeswoman said the community is not in immediate danger.

Firefighters were joined by air tankers and helicopters to handle the blaze.
