Ja Rule sentenced to prison in NY gun case

March 9, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
Rapper Ja Rule was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison, almost four years following a gun charge.

According to police, a loaded gun was found in a rear door of Ja Rule's luxury sports car when it was stopped for speeding after a July 2007 concert.

The 35-year-old performer pleaded guilty in December to attempted weapon possession. He agreed to a two-year prison term.

He said on "Good Day New York" Monday that "laws are laws," and he's been trying to prepare himself mentally for prison.

Ja Rule was nominated for a 2002 best rap album Grammy Award for "Pain is Love." His movie credits include 2001's "The Fast and the Furious" and 2003's "Scary Movie 3."
