The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department could soon be in charge of monitoring parolees.

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors plans to discuss the move on Tuesday after Sheriff Lee Baca made a bid to take over the duties.

Baca's idea was prompted by a realignment plan proposed by Gov. Jerry Brown. Under it, local government would be paid to take over the responsibility of supervising low-risk inmates paroled from state prison.
