OTRC: Selena Gomez speaks after hospitalization, talks about new film and album (Video)

Selena Gomez talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com at a mall near Los Angeles on June 13, 2011, days after she was hospitalized after feeling unwell.

Selena Gomez is back on her feet following a health scare that prompted a short hospitalization and is concentrating on promoting her new film, "Monte Carlo" and her third studio album, "When The Sun Goes Down," which she says contains elements from her personal life.

Gomez, 18, has been drawing attention for more than her movie and music career - she has for the past few months been dating Justin Bieber, who is currently one of the most popular teenage pop stars in the world.

"This album is actually has a lot to do with my personal life," Gomez told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other news outlets at a Los Angeles shopping mall, where she performed on Monday, June 13 to promote her new projects. "It's really happy and it's just something that kind of represents where I am in my life."

Gomez's new album, "When The Sun Goes Down," hits stores on June 28. The actress and singer was taken to a hospital on Thursday, June 9 after suffering from nausea and a severe headache following a "Tonight Show" appearance, prompting her to cancel two performances. Gomez said on Monday that she was "feeling much better."

Bieber, 17, had used his Twitter page, following by some 10 million fans, to wish Gomez well and spread a potential trending topic, saying: #getwellselena.

When asked on Monday if she preferred to revert to a "low-profile" life amid the increase in public attention, especially with regard to her relationship with Bieber, Gomez, who travels with a bodyguard, told reporters: "No, I love what I do and unfortunately it kind of just comes with what I do, so I just kind of focus on the stuff that makes me happy and just kind of go through it."

Gomez is known for her role as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place" and has starred in films such as "Ramona and Beezus," which was released last year. "Monte Carlo" is due to hit theaters on July 1. The film tells of three young women who visit Paris and end up in Monte Carlo after one of the girls, played by Gomez, is mistaken for a British heiress. The movie also stars "Gossip Girl" actresses Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy as well as "Glee" actor Cory Monteith.

Gomez also plans to take on a more serious film role and is due to star in the movie "13 Reasons Why," which is adapted from a novel by Jay Asher, which tells of a shy high school boy who finds a box containing cassettes made by a female student who he had a crush on, who committed suicide. She wants him to pass on the tapes to other students and talks in them about the reasons she killed herself.

"My mom found '13 Reasons Why' in the bookstore," Gomez said. "We ended up loving the book and the message in it so we're hoping to get that into production soon."
