Crystal Harris has called off her engagement to Hugh Hefner days before their wedding and the Playboy mogul says she left him and took her dog with her.
"After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef," the 25-year-old Playboy model said in a message posted on her website on Tuesday, June 14 - the day her debut single, "Club Queen," was released online (listen to it below).
"I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward," Harris added.
Hefner also announced the news on his Twitter page, saying: "The wedding is off. Crystal has had a change of heart. The breakup is a heart breaker, but better now than after the marriage."
"Crystal's 'Club Queen' became available on iTunes today," Hefner added. "I hope it's a hit."
Harris and Hefner, 85, became engaged in December 2010 and have been linked together for about two years. They were set to wed on Saturday, June 18, at the Playboy Mansion in Bel Air, California.
People magazine quoted Harris' manager as saying: "The split was a mutual decision and the two remain good friends."
Hefner had in recent days been promoting on Twitter the upcoming July 2011 issue of Playboy, which features Harris and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog, Charlie, on the cover.
Hefner has dated many Playboy Playmates and has lived with small groups of them at a time in his home. During the past year, he has focused most of his attention on Harris.
She appeared on the E! reality show, "The Girls Next Door," which showcased the lives of Hefner's girlfriends at the Playboy mansion and once starred ex-girlfriends Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson.
"i'm sorry i know its not my place to comment but i think its downright sad that crystal broke up w/ Hef the day her single drops on itunes," Playboy Playmate Lindsay Gayle Tweeted on Tuesday.
"@TheLindseyGayle me, too!" Madison responded. "Worst stunt in history!"
Hefner has been married twice. He and Playboy Playmate Kimberley Conrad wed in 1989 and divorced in March 2010. They have two sons - Marston and Cooper.
Hefner and his first wife, Mildred Williams, were married between 1949 and 1959 and are parents to Christie and David, who are in their 50s.
