OTRC: LeAnn Rimes still defensive after bikini photos, talks society's body image 'obsession'

LeAnn Rimes is still defending her diet and fitness habits weeks after she was dubbed "scary skinny" in photos that show her wearing a bikini and says society is obsessed with body image.

The 28-year-old country singer had called herself a "healthy girl" after the fan's comment, made after she posted on her Twitter page pictures of herself in a skimpy blue and white two-piece bathing suit in late May. Rimes appears slimmer than she looked during a guest performance on the NBC reality show "America's Got Talent," which also featured her in a bikini. The episode aired in August 2010.

"I just eat a balanced diet and watch how much 'crap' I put in my body," Rimes said on her Twitter page on Friday, June 17 in response to a fan. "I did have mac and cheese this morning and enjoyed every bite! Gotta have those days."

Rimes later posted a photo of the dish, saying: "This was full of mac and cheese 2 hrs ago.....we've devoured it."

Rimes also detailed her exercise plan.

"I work out ... 3 days a week if I'm lucky," she Tweeted. "I'm constantly on the move and my workouts are intense."

Rimes addressed criticism and concern people had expressed regarding her body on her blog on Thursday, saying: "What no woman or man needs is anyone telling them they are 'too fat' or 'too skinny.' That just adds to the many stereotypes out there about a person's weight."

"I don't deny that there are people around the world with real problems such as bulimia, anorexia, or binge eating," she said. "But I'm talking about our obsession as a society with body image and how it's started to control and tear our lives apart. I hope that any girl, boy, woman, or man reading this will think before they speak, and that anyone in need of help finds a safe place to get it."

The singer's Twitter followers began commenting on her apparent weight loss back in February, when she showcased a slimmer figure at the Grammy Awards.

In September, Rimes donned the cover of Shape magazine and talked about her workout habits, saying: "Going to the gym and punching out some of my aggression on a pair of mitts has been a lifesaver. Sometimes I felt so depressed I didn't want to get out of bed, so just getting to the gym -even for a few minutes - was a big accomplishment."

Over the past two years, Rimes has been dealing with criticism over more than her body - many have slammed her relationship with actor Eddie Cibrian because the two began dating while they were married to other people.

They went public with their romance in 2009 after falling in love on the set of the Lifetime movie, "Northern Lights" and wed on April 22 in a private ceremony.

Cibrian stars in the NBC series "The Playboy Club," which begins airing this fall. Rimes also continues to act and guest stars on the third season of the Lifetime series "Drop Dead Diva," which premieres on Sunday, June 19.
