Costa Mesa drafting sex-offender park ban

The Costa Mesa city attorney is working on a proposal to prohibit sex offenders from city parks.

Costa Mesa may soon ban sex offenders from city parks.

The city attorney is working on a proposal in response to a request from the Orange County District Attorney's Office, the Daily Pilot reported Thursday.

Orange County already prohibits registered sex offenders from county parks, beaches and harbors without written permission from the sheriff's department.

O.C. District Attorney Tony Rackauckas is trying to convince cities in Orange County to adopt similar measures.

So far, Irvine and Westminster have adopted the ordinances.
